著名爆料大神 @OnLeaks 收到一幅 iPad mini 5 的 CAD 設計圖，他未正式將圖公開，但認為如果這圖是真的話，那麼 iPad mini 的麥克風位置就會有所改變，但除此之外就找不到外觀上的明顯變化。而多個消息渠道也指今次的 iPad mini 5 重點在於價格，配上硬件上的升級。因此找不到 Face ID 及全螢幕，依舊使用 7.9 吋螢幕、Touch ID 甚至仍然保留 3.5mm 耳機插口位置。
不過，值得一提，從 iOS 12.12 的 Beta 中，有些支援 Apple Pencil 及 Smart Keyboard 的痕跡出現，若能對應 Apple Pencil 使用，相信也是一個不錯的改版。
