對於一些老經驗的 Mac 用戶，也許聽過 macOS Server 這作業系統，然而在 2021 年 12 月推出 macOS 12 Server 5.12 ，當中支援 macOS Monterey。2022 年 4 月 21 日 Apple 宣佈正式終結 macOS Server。現時 macOS Server 用戶仍可繼續配合 Monterey 使用。
事實上，自 macOS High Sierra 開始，以往 macOS Server 的 Caching Server、File Sharing Server 及 Time Machine Server 已內置了這些功能。
