美國總統 Donald Trump 因為一段 Tweet，引起「放生中興」疑雲，但是，最近 Donald Trump 又在 Twitter 放話，說根本沒有「放生中興」這回事。
Donald Trump 針對「放生中興」問題再次發帖，點名批評華盛頓郵報和 CNN 虛構假新聞，並指除了涉及較大的貿易協議外，中興沒事發生，暗示有關中興的制裁措施會延續下去。Donald Trump 亦指美國每年對中國貿易損失了數以千億計，美國不知道中國人的需求，反而中國人知道美國的需求，這是因為部分前總統們低劣的談判技巧導致。美國根本沒有如傳媒所指「放生中興」，而且有關貿易談判還未開始。美國過去已經給了很多，中國應該給予更多。

早前中國手機商及通訊設備生產商中興被指涉及偷運元件到伊朗和北韓，美國政府決定向美企下禁令 7 年內不要向中興銷售敏感元件，中興因為供應鏈斷裂陷入破產邊緣。
中興被美國政府封殺後，陷入前所未有的「休克」狀態， Donald Trump 在 Twitter 之中提到他與中國國家主席習近平合作希望中興可以重新回復正常的商業活動，多國傳媒均以「放生中興」為題，指 Donald Trump 和美國願意給機會中興。

但是，多國傳媒沒有提及中興被封殺一事已成為美中貿易談判裡面美國其中一隻棋子，Donald Trump 在之後的帖子之中提到中國在過去的貿易談判佔上風，但中興仍然依賴美國公司購買大量零件，這會反映到在美中之間更大的貿易談判，令美國和中國互惠互利，不會傾斜中國。

在「放生中興」帖子出現之後，有傳媒向白宮發言人提問中興是否真的被「放生」，獲得的回覆是美國總統要求美國商務部長 Wilbur Ross 翻查法律，由於中興被指偷運敏感元件給北韓和伊朗，屬嚴重違反制裁行為，因此，白宮發言人已經從回覆中暗示中興不會輕易被「放生」了。
